American Flyer 6-48865 SLSF Frisco Cylindrical Hopper Car w/High Rail Wheels
Lionel introduced a totally new cylindrical hopper car in 2013 for its line of American Flyer S gauge trains. They were done in a host of Union Pacific “Heritage” and Norfolk Southern “Legacy” railroad names. These cars were aimed at the S scalers with trucks having rotating bearing caps and scale wheel flanges. Suffice it to say that the cars were not very well received by the scale operators and the high rail/tinplate operators couldn’t use them because of the scale wheel flanges. Lionel did, however, produce three cylindrical hopper cars with the high rail wheels instead of the scale wheels.
Offered is the Lionel American Flyer 6-48865 SLSF Frisco cylindrical hopper car with high rail wheel flanges. It is in C-9 (Mint) condition. It is fully compatible with the standard American Flyer track from the AC Gilbert era, Gargraves S gauge track, or K-Line S gauge track. It is also compatible with all modern high rail track from American Models, MTH (formerly S Helper Service), and the new Lionel American Flyer “Fast Track.” It will not run on any layout having scale track.
