The enamel paint is now crazed & crackled & the fine linen dress is now slightly soiled & discolored. The hand painted eyes though are wrought w/surprising emotion & w/real delicacy, giving the doll a hesitant, shy expression & one of possibly bewilderment & quiet curiosity toward all the manifestations of the newly realized life & all of its many splendors in front of her. The body is without any material loss, aside from some episodes of flaking paint. The doll looks to have been perhaps exposed to the heat of an attic or barn loft, as the paint film covering the paper mache doll's form & limbs is moderately crazed & crackled. A wonderful & simply amazing early doll.
