    Description

Wonderful Zuni Fetish Carving by Ed Lementino, features 2 protection bears bundled together with a string of turquoise and (maybe) shell heishi. They both have inlaid turquoise eyes.  I think they may be made from Picasso Marble.  This piece is in great "used" condition.  They are marked on the bottom with ED. They measure approx. 1.5" from snout to tail, 1.5" width, 1" height.
This Native American fetish, a Zuni Bear fetish, is the symbol of great curative abilities. The Zuni bear fetish is one of the most important symbols of Southwestern pueblo societies, the Bear fetish is associated with strength, self-knowledge and healing. Bear fetishes are usually carved with little or no tails but quite a range of body shapes. The Zuni bear fetish is a Protective Animal of the West. The bundle wrapped to the back of a bear fetish is an offering giving more power to the fetish.
